What we have

We started entertaining the idea of long travel in ca Dec 2017. It felt like there will not be a better time for this than now, conditional if a work opportunity will come through or not. Many months of preparations concluded with us packing our backpacks and heading to Shanghai on October 11th 2018.

The time leading to it was a bit stressful and exciting at the same time. Stressful from the shopping point of view as we are both not fans of it, but needed rather many things. E.g. stocked up on merino clothing to keep our bags as light and small as possible, yet still having some choice. Moreover, I think we were a bit optimistic on taking only 10 days to move away from Copenhagen and spend time with family in both countries. So the end was a bit rushed.
Quitting our jobs was rather liberating even though it meant leaving the comfortable Nordic life behind. We shipped ca 30 boxes of stuff from Denmark to Lithuania (we live quite minimalist so no idea how we managed to accummulate so much in 3 years 🙀). And now our belongings for the next 6 months fit into one carry-on (40L) backpack each.

At the start my backpack weighed ca 10.6 kg and I was wearing 2.7 kg on me.

V’s backpack weighed 11.8 kg and he was wearing 2.7kg . He is carrying 1 extra pair of shoes as he’s hoping to send his hiking boots back home after Nepal and keep the trail running shoes for outdoorsy activities.

*Big thanks to Linkmenu fabrikas and EglÄ— for letting us use the venue for the pics!

We have a “plan” for the first ca 6 weeks. Tibet tour and trekking in Nepal are in place, what happens after stay tuned to find out.
